Netflix: A Family Affair

As most of you know, I am a HUGE fan of Netflix. They have saved my sanity on more than one occasion. (Can we say "Snow Days"?!) And I enjoy writing for them once a month as part of their "stream team" of bloggers because the posts seriously write themselves. (Who doesn't already LOVE Netflix?!) But lately I have been so busy with work and life that it has been harder and harder to carve out some writing time.

So when they reached out to me this month and asked if I would be interested in letting my daughters write my post this month, I was ALL ears. You see, they have an original series called Mako Mermaids that my daughters LOVE. We already watch it.

A LOT.

And what better way to truly make Netflix a family affair, than to bring it full circle and let them do the talking for me this month.

When I asked my oldest daughter (who is 12) how she felt about writing a review on the show and the youngest girls if they would draw the pictures to go with their older sister's review, they all were super hyped! (And the icing on the cake was Netflix sending them a pretty awesome "mermaid" kit in the mail as a thank-you for all their hard work!)

<----What little girl wouldn't be excited about getting all THIS in the mail? Shoot! Can *I* write some stuff about your show next time? I want some Bath & Body Works and Eos! I like to paint MY nails! I want beach worthy hair in the middle of winter! And they won't even SHARE it with me. Huh.

The kids worked very hard to let you know why Mako Mermaids is a great show that YOUR tweenage girls would enjoy too.

So without further ado, I give you my tween, Jess, with her debut on my blog.

Why I Love Mako Mermaids and You Should Too
by Jessica, age 12

The show Mako Mermaids: H2O Adventures is about these three mermaids who have been banned from the other mermaids because they turned a human into a mermaid. They are just learning how to walk with legs and get into a lot of trouble in the human world. When they get wet anywhere on their body, anywhere at all, their legs transform back into tails. Then they have to wait to dry off completely to turn back to humans.

I like this show because it is more realistic than other shows I have watched about mermaids. I don't think it is fair that mermaids have to choose between being a human or being a mermaid when they could be both! I also like this show because you don't have to watch ALL the episodes for it to make sense. When I first watched it, I was at my friend's house and we watched an episode that was in the middle of Season 1 because that was where she was in the series. We really loved it! We loved it so much, that when we got home, we tied our feet together and tried to walk around like mermaids. It was so funny!

My FAVORITE episode is the season finale of season 1. In this episode, the human friend of a merman tries to become a merman. He steals a trident and uses it in a fight against the mermaids so that he can fall into the moon pool and become a merman. (If you fall into the moon pool during a full moon, you will be transformed.)

I am pretty excited about Season 2 being out now so I can continue watching this great show. If you love mystical creatures, mermaids, fantasy, suspense, or action shows, you should watch Mako Mermaids! It will leave you wanting to watch more.

What shows do YOUR kids love? Leave me a comment!

I receive complimentary Netflix service in return for my endorsement, but all opinions and referrals are 100% my own opinion.
Be sure to tune in to Mako Mermaids Season 2 available now on Netflix!

Thanks! I think I'll see if my little drama princess will enjoy it as well!
I'm jealous of the little divas and that prize pack. Lol that's all we watch here. I need to be on payroll. Lol
I love that your kids are involved in your blog. Great review! I didn't even know this existed and will have to check it out and tell my daughter so she can show it to my granddaughter!! Thank you! :)
Great review! Our family loves Netflix too and our Teen is on Netflix more than she is on her phone, that says a lot right there. LOL
We are fans of mermaids too and never had heard of this show, so thanks for the wonderful review! We will be checking it out this weekend when we have family time. :)
Haven't ever had Netflix here. Is it really worth it?

For sure! It is only $12/month to stream on up to 3 devices at a time. So while your kids are watching their shows, you can stream what YOU want to watch on your laptop, tablet, or a different tv! We stream ours through our Wii because we have an older tv that doesn't connect to the internet, but ALL new Tvs have the capability to hook up to Netlfix programmed right into them. They stream thousands of movies and tv shows, including original series that ONLY Netflix subscribers can watch (like Mako Mermaids and Orange is the New Black) and they are constantly adding new ones. There truly is something for everyone! We could hardly live without it. Lol!
Great review! I'll have to check this out as it sounds like my three girls will love it too!
We had a week between end of preschool summer session and the start of kindergarten. I was desperate because the kid was at work with me. I signed up for Netflix, and it was a lifesaver. And so worth the money. Any time he's with me at work, I can always find something to keep him out of trouble for a couple of hours. We worked our way through most of the Power Rangers series, and he requests Netflix so he can watch episodes of Clone Wars. It's seriously the best money we spend. I don't know that he would be into mermaids, but after reading your daughter's review, I am going to try one episode and see if he will watch it. He loves all things sea creature, so mermaids might capture his attention!

Well written review and lovely art!! Great job girls!
Excellent job by the "Drama Queens" themselves! You make your Momma proud!
Barb is OBSESSED WITH MERMAIDS!!!!!! I am going to have to ask Haydan if she has seen this one on Netflix.
My recent post My Friend Alan
Lovely job girls!
I love that your daughter wrote this! She did a great job too! The only thing that could have made this better is a video of her tying her legs together trying to be a mermaid ha!
Your daughters did a fantastic review! I think we'll check out the mermaid show next! My girls love The Little Princess, Bo on the Go, and recently saw Sherman & Peabody (or the other way around, I forget, LOL). We don't have cable, only have Netflix, and love it too!!
Maybe I'll point it out to my daughter too. She might enjoy the show.
What a great job Jess! We love Netflix! My kids also ask to watch it. Stephen loves to be the navigator through all the different options. Since I have a boy and a girl I rarely get them to agree...well I guess that is most siblings. Lol. We take turns picking. Lately it has been more movies than tv shows. We watch a lot of Disney and Pixar movies. The kid section is super easy to navigate which is a bonus and I love how they seperate and give the kids a kid section and then the adults can their seperate ones. Huge fans of Netflix around here! Super cool that you blogg for them and they let the girls join in this month!
How fun. We also love Netflix. My daughter watched My Little Pony on it, although I think My Little Pony has been removed. So now she watches Disney stuff.

Great post! I know how it is when kids find a show they watch over and over. It's rough!

Have they watched the original series: H20: Just Add Water? Mako Mermaids is a spinoff of this show. Honestly, the original is much much better. With H20, it's a fun show where 3 girls accidentally become mermaids on Mako Island and get special powers. They have to hide their powers from friends and family.
It takes a few episodes to really get into it, but even after watching it a few times, I enjoy it.

My daughter started Mako Mermaids after watching H20 a million times. We just couldn't get into it. The writing wasn't as good and the stories/characters not as interesting.

That being said, I think it's great that Netflix has some great options for tweens and teens. It can be a lifesaver some days!
Sounds like a good show. My kids love Octonauts! They watch it on Netflix.
